The V4 Ski Mountaineering Rally ski touring competition is organized by the Hungarian Ski Mountaineering and Ski Touring Association on behalf of the Hungarian Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation.

Event Overview

  • Open competition, open to all participants

  • Two separate race disciplines will be held:

    • Sprint Race

    • Individual Race

  • Separate registration is required for each race discipline

  • Results for the two disciplines will be evaluated and awarded independently

  • Awards: Only men’s and women’s categories are awarded; 1st–3rd place finishers receive prizes

  • No age-group categories

Sprint Race

The Sprint Race is organized in accordance with the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) competition rules, with a course layout adapted to the characteristics of the venue.

Course Characteristics

  • Short, technical course

  • All ski mountaineering movement types are included:

    • skinning ascent

    • walking with skis on the backpack (bootpacking)

    • downhill skiing

  • Fast and correct transitions between movement types are of key importance

  • On ascent sections, the prescribed movement technique is mandatory

  • The downhill section takes place on a gated course

Race Format

  • Qualification time trial

  • Followed by elimination heats

  • The course layout is identical in every heat:

    • skinning ascent

    • bootpacking section

    • descent

Regulations

The race is conducted according to the official International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) competition rules.

Intentional obstruction or dangerous behavior may result in:

  • warning

  • time penalty

  • disqualification (DSQ)

Compliance with the rules is mandatory in technical zones (equipment changes, bootpacking sections).

Mandatory Equipment – Sprint Race

  • Touring skis, touring bindings, touring ski boots

  • Ski poles

  • Skins (minimum 1 pair)

  • Helmet

  • Gloves

  • Backpack suitable for carrying skis

  • Competition-appropriate sportswear

In accordance with International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) regulations, avalanche safety equipment is not mandatory due to the race being held in a ski resort.

Individual Race

The Individual Race is conducted in accordance with the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) competition rules, with a course optimized for the local terrain.

Distance and Elevation

  • Distance: approx. 8 km

  • Elevation gain: approx. 750 m

  • The route is partially marked; use of a navigation app is strongly recommended

The race organizers reserve the right to modify the course.

Race Format

  • Mass start

  • Course sections include:

    • ascent on skis

    • optional bootpacking section

    • descent

  • Avalanche shovel

  • Avalanche probe

  • Fully charged and switched-on mobile phone

  • Competition-appropriate sportswear
  • Hydration (min. 500ml)
